Last week, accadis University of Applied Sciences once again welcomed many new students to its Bachelor's and Master's degree programs and is now looking forward to the upcoming 2022|2023 academic year, which will feature the opening of the new building on SÜDCAMPUS. "You have made a good choice!" With these words, Prof. Florian Pfeffel, President of accadis Hochschule, opened the welcoming ceremony in the foyer of the university. "Only with us can you study individually, excellently and one step ahead," said Prof. Florian Pfeffel, reinforcing to the freshmen that they had made the right decision in choosing to study at accadis. Vice President Prof. Andrea Hüttmann, who is responsible for the soft skills training of the students at accadis, traditionally provides the new students with some food for thought. This year, these include: "Take your time with this new start, work hard, grades are only part of your success, keep up with world events daily, do something about climate change, enjoy your time at university."
Educators and pilots also among first-year students again
As the educational institution grows, so does the Department of Education, which was established last October. Last week, the accadis team welcomed the second cohort of the dual Bachelor's degree program "Childhood Education and Multilingual Education B. A.". Head of Department Dr. Johannes Appel is particularly pleased about the first male students: "The fact that our course offerings are also accepted by young men is important - heterogeneity is essential both for the study groups, and the institutions in which our students work during their dual studies are also pleased to have male reinforcement. The interlinking of accadis University of Applied Sciences and accadis International School (ISB) is also evident here, as a total of four students chose the bilingual institution as their work-based partner.
The popularity of the MBA program for airline pilots, which accadis Hochschule launched last year as a result of the pandemic, continues to be very promising. Even though the crisis in the aviation industry seems to have been largely overcome and most pilots are flying again, nine pilots opted for the part-time program in order to build up a second mainstay in management and leadership.
New generation with new needs
In these fast-moving times, it is essential not only to adapt to the needs of young people in everyday teaching and learning, but also to keep a close eye on the latest developments in terms of content. "As a university in particular, we feel obliged to regularly take a fresh look at our students' curricula and update them. This is also how our Future Skills lecture series came into being. Annually, we bring it up to an even more up-to-date level," says Prof. Maria Ratz, Head of Studies at accadis University of Applied Sciences. In this manner, accadis also proves itself as an organization that is continuously engaged in learning and that rightly takes "one step ahead" as its motto.
More space for learning and generation-oriented facilities
The fact that the accadis keeps up with the times and offers young people age-appropriate facilities is also reflected in the new building. Full of anticipation, Prof. Christoph Kexel presented the expansion of the educational institution during the introductory week. The new building is scheduled to be completed and opened before the end of this year. accadis Bildung, the umbrella organization of accadis Hochschule and accadis ISB, has acquired the office building located on Bad Homburg's SÜDCAMPUS. The building formerly housed Ameropa and the Haier company. The 5,250 m² area will now provide space for accadis ISB Secondary School as well as the students of accadis University of Applied Sciences. The library, for instance, is moving and will be accessible to students 24/7 in the new building. There will also be a student bistro and an event area for up to 250 attendees.
Quality through continuity and growth in the number of professors
One pillar that guarantees the high quality of accadis Hochschule is the long-standing affiliation of many staff and faculty members. For decades, a well-rehearsed team has ensured a smooth course of studies and at the same time stands for consistency and continuity. In October, for example, a member of staff was congratulated on her 40th anniversary and two professors on their tenth and 15th anniversaries. Of course, accadis at the simultaneously provides for the enrichment of the team through young individuals and new talents: Just recently, the professorships for Economics and the professorship for Sports Management and Strategy were awarded to two young men, Prof. Markus Ahlborn and Prof. Fabian Ulrich.
