Anyone who invested in the DAX, the German stock
index, in 1987 has meanwhile increased the investment thirteenfold.
Nevertheless, only around 15% of the German population currently invest in
equities or equity funds.
Bond ETFs, derivatives or certificates - it is often
very difficult for newcomers to gain an overview of this complex subject matter
at the beginning. How exciting and fascinating this can be, however, is shown
by the accspire Investment Club.
As Managing
Director in New York, London and Frankfurt
The accspire Investment Club was founded in order to
support financially interested students to continue their education outside of the
university and on a voluntary basis. Since then, the group has met regularly to
examine current stock market events, discuss economic news and even develop its
own investment strategy with the accspire Investment Fund. accadis lecturer
Professor Dr. Ralf Wandmacher, who was Managing Director in Deutsche Bank's
Investment Banking and Associate in Sales and Trading at Goldman Sachs in
Frankfurt, New York and London, played a supportive and pioneering role. Last
year, in his gripping lecture, he reported on the activities of a trader and
inspired around 70 students with various anecdotes from his career.
Renowned speakers
for a broader perspective
The goal of the accspire Investment Club is simple: to
inspire accadis students even more for the topics investment, banking and
capital market. Therefore, the club is constantly striving to invite top-class
speakers to accadis University of Applied Science in order to ensure
stimulating lectures. This is not just a matter of blunt know-how- Quite the
contrary: most of the speakers come directly from the financial sector and thus
warrant not only cutting edge further training, but also valuable networking.
Exciting facts
and anecdotes
Professor Dr. Heinz Hockmann from the University of
Giessen, who, among others, was a member
of the Board of Managing Directors of Commerzbank and Westfalenbank as well as Head
of Asset Management at Commerzbankin his guest lecture discussed the complex
question of whether or not the financial services sector is still an attractive
industry for prospective managers. It quickly became evident that he had supported
the expansion of a number of asset management companies and managed billions in
funds. In particular, those listeners who still want to fundamentally build up
their knowledge in this area benefited from a general introduction on financial
services and financial intermediaries. After fascinating anecdotes from
Hockmann's career and an exciting round of questions, a get-together with
drinks and snacks followed. This served to promote networking activities and
let the evening come to a relaxed end.
Over 40 years of
experience on the stock exchange
The next exciting event followed a week later as part
of the Investment Club Meeting: Christoph Geyer conducted a live chart
analysis.
Christoph Geyer now can look back on over 40 years of
experience on the stock exchange and works as a technical analyst at
Commerzbank. In addition, he works as a lecturer and auditor at the Frankfurt
School of Finance and Management and regularly holds seminars and lectures. He
can be particularly proud of his success in 2011, when he achieved first place
in the Technical Analyst Award.
During his visit to accadis University of Applied
Science, however, not everything revolved around chart analysis: After he had
specified the basics and history of technical chart analysis, he explained the
connection with fundamental analysis and psychological investor behavior. He then
continued to make reference to individual indicators - such as the so-called
"MACD" or the stochastic oscillator. He also talked about different
chart progressions such as the Keil or the Wolfe Wave.
Things continue
All listeners gathered valuable knowledge. The accspire
Investment Club has once again achieved its goal for the evening - and has not
had enough of it: The next guest lectures and events are already being planned
to attract even more students to the investment world.
