accadis Career Day Sets an Example in Times of Shortage of Skilled Workers

career day 2022 shortage skilled workers

The accadis Career Day has never been this large: 27 renowned companies, including DAX companies such as Fresenius and SAP, presented themselves to the accadis University of Applied Sciences students yesterday.

Big line-up: Kia, PepsiCo, DFB, EURO 2024, Fresenius and SAP among others visit Bad Homburg

From DAX companies and hidden champions to successful start-ups: this year's Career Day at accadis shines with 27 renowned companies of various stripes: Angelique Kerber Management, Born this Way Agency, brands and emotions, bynamics, Capitalmind, Deutscher Fußball-Bund, Dornbach, EURO 2024, EY-Parthenon, FISKARS Germany/FISKARS Group, FRESENIUS, GHK Management Consulting, Grayling Communications, IMPAG Import, INNOPAY, INTARGIA Managementberatung, InterSearch Executive Consultants, KEYENCE, Kia Europe, PepsiCo, Preventio, SAP, Stanton Chase, STRATECO, S+V - Unternehmensberatung and Thronsberg Consulting.

Divided into the industries "Management Consulting", "Executive Search"," Finance, Technology, Chemical Industry, Health Care", "Consumer Goods, Automotive, Communication, Marketing" as well as "Sports, Sports Events", the companies presented themselves in consecutive "Company Pitches", answered all the students' questions at their booths afterwards and interviewed ambitious accadis students for specific positions.

accadis students are particularly sought after by companies

The guest companies at Career Day value the students' exceptional skill set: Technical know-how, high digital competence, professional appearance, very good presentation skills, business English at a high level. "The shortage of skilled workers is felt everywhere and companies are increasingly seeking contact with young talent earlier," said Prof. Andrea Hüttmann, Head of Corporate Relations and organizer of Career Day. "The demand from companies was so high this year that I had to put off many companies until next year." Jens Klemann, founder and Managing Director of the Bad Homburg-based management consultancy Strateco sums up: "For us, Career Day is a great event. Great organization, but above all excellent discussions with fascinating students. This shows the quality of accadis - through the right mix of teaching and hands-on experience, students are trained in exactly the way we want as a company."

What makes accadis Career Day special is that, in addition to the rounds of introductions and the job fairs, each company offers between four and ten short interviews for previously advertised positions that students can apply for. "With a total of 270 registrations, not everyone has the opportunity for an interview, of course. First come, first served. Just like in real life...", says Prof. Andrea Hüttmann. "It helps, of course, that I am in close contact with the companies and know our students well. So I often advise in advance on Career Day planning and match certain students with certain companies." Prospective students also had the opportunity to attend Career Day this year, network, apply for a dual (work | study format) Master's program, and see the effective network of the accadis University of Applied Sciences for themselves.

accadis alumni return to their alma mater as successful young professionals

"I am very pleased that accadis Career Day and also our network has grown so much in recent years. We owe a large part of this to the good connections we have with our alumni. Once they have attained a certain position in their companies, they fetch the young talents from their former university," states Prof. Andrea Hüttmann. 15 of the 27 companies in attendance were represented by alumni. "It's great to see," says Managing Partner Gerda Meinl-Kexel, "that our former students so often find their way back to Bad Homburg and are also proud to present their companies with us."

Business talks on various career topics round off the day

The complementary program on June 29 also aroused great interest among accadis students and invited guests. In eleven exciting Business Talks, they had the opportunity to gather insights into the world of consulting, sales or HR consulting, to optimize their LinkedIn profile or to learn more about the topic of "founding a company while studying". Larissa Ulbrich from Pepsico introduced the students to the "Skills of the Future". Prof. Maria Ratz, Head of Studies at accadis, was particularly interested in this lecture: "Since all of our students go through the Future Skills module sequence that we have designed, I was particularly interested in this lecture. It was exciting to hear how a real-world company looks at the topic. In any case, one thing is certain: In a constantly changing world, new skills are always needed."

Students and companies look back favorably on Career Day

As the last interviews came to a close around 7:30 p.m., the Career Day team felt the first sense of relief at the successful day. "You really have to be an organizational talent and invest a lot of time to make this day a success," said Prof. Andrea Hüttmann. "Then when the first positive feedback comes in, I know we've done a good job." This year, two student interns assisted in the planning of Career Day and played a key role in making it run smoothly. "It was a great experience for me to help stage an event like this," said Alina Weber, one of the two student interns. "I am grateful for this opportunity and the trust placed in me." After Career Day is before Career Day - accadis students can already look forward to seeing which companies will be on the lookout for talent at accadis next year.
